Getting Around

For those interested in taking public transportation to Google, here are some resources:
  • www.caltrain.com: This is the train that runs between San Francisco and San Jose. Google is closest to the Mountain View station. There are free shuttles from the Mountain View Caltrain station to Google.
  • www.vta.org: Transit in Santa Clara County is run by the Valley Transportation Authority. It consists mainly of buses but also has light rail. The light rail does not go near Google but one line does terminate at the Mountain View Caltrain station.
  • www.511.org: This is a Bay Area-wide travel planning website, with links to all the individual providers. It has a good route-finding tool.
  • maps.google.com: Google maps has a good tool for taking public transportation. Simply click on the train icon for Get Directions.
  • www.bart.gov: Bay Area Rapid Transportation (BART).
  • www.paloatlolimo.com: Palo Alto Limousine (Phone: 650-274-6666).
There are a large number of motels on El Camino Real in Mountain View, Sunnyvale, and Palo Alto. Buses run 24 hours a day on El Camino (VTA line 22), with connections to buses to Google.
Bus fare is $2, deposited into the fare box on the bus. Exact change required; transfers are available. Tickets for Caltrain must be purchased at ticket machines at every station. Mountain View is in zone 3. Cash or credit cards accepted. If you expect to take the train in the morning and again in the evening, buy a Day Pass. It costs twice a one-way and allows unlimited travel that day in the chosen zone(s).
